Ms Angel Leung Sum-yee
Leung is a young performer of female roles who began to study Cantonese Opera under the mentorship of a renowned teacher Cheung Po-wah in 2003. Leung studied Cantonese operatic singing with Master Lam Kam-tong in 2005. Leung joined The Course for Young Cantonese Opera Performers organized by The Cantonese Opera Academy of Hong Kong (run by the Chinese Artists Association). In 2011, Leung officially became an apprentice of renowned actress Wan Fei-yin.
In 2012, Leung was admitted to the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), and was awarded the “HKU Foundation Scholarships for Outstanding Student”. Leung obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from HKU in 2016 and 2017 respectively, and a Practising Certificate as a lawyer in 2020. In the same year, she enrolled in the Higher Diploma in Cantonese Opera at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), she was granted the "Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence 2020/21 and 2021/2022" and the "Grantham Scholarships" by the Hong Kong Government SAR during her studies. In 2021, she was honored to be selected as one of the recipients of the “Ten Outstanding Tertiary Students Awards” under the Hong Kong Outstanding Students Award. Leung obtained the Higher Diploma in Cantonese Opera from the HKAPA in 2022. Over the years, Leung has participated in Cantonese Opera performances and promotional activities organized by opera troupes of various scales, including large-scale performances such as the Hong Kong Arts Festival, “Yuen Siu-fai 70th Anniversary Show”, Chinese Opera festival 2023 “Bless This Land – Cantonese Opera Showcase” under the Bamboo Theatre at Victoria Park organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Greater Bay Area exchange performances.
