Mr LOONG Koon-tin BBS ＭＨ
Loong Koon-tin is a veteran Cantonese opera performer who apprenticed under Liu Xun, Zhu Yigang, Liu Yongquan and Ren Daxun. Loong has founded several Cantonese opera troupes and composed many new plays. He has also recorded famous songs and appeared in various stage shows and television dramas.
Since 2012, Loong has been serving as the Artistic Director of the Yau Ma Tei Theatre Venue Partnership Scheme (Cantonese Opera Young Talent Showcase). He was an awardee of the 2013 Secretary for Home Affairs' Commendation Scheme. Loong is currently the Chairman of the Chinese Artists Association of Hong Kong, also a member of the Cantonese Opera Advisory Committee, Hong Kong Arts Development Council and the Community Panel of Leisure and Cultural Services Department Audience Building Schemes. In 2016, he received the Medal of Honour from the Chief Executive of the HKSAR government. In 2021, he was awarded “Artist of the Year” (Xiqu) in the 15th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards organized by Hong Kong Arts Development Council. In 2024, he received the Bronze Bauhinia Star from the Chief Executive of the HKSAR government, to commend his contributions to Cantonese Opera.
